Getting Started

UpsellCat is a Shopify app that lets you create one-click post-purchase and thank you page upsell offers. When a customer completes checkout, they see a targeted offer they can accept with a single click — no need to re-enter payment details. It's designed to increase your average order value without adding friction to the buying experience.

UpsellCat uses Shopify's official checkout extensions to show upsell offers at two key moments: right after checkout (post-purchase page) and on the order confirmation / thank you page. You create offers in the UpsellCat dashboard, choose which products to upsell, set optional discounts and timers, and target them to specific trigger products. When a customer qualifies, they see your offer and can accept it with one click.

Visit the Shopify App Store listing, click "Add app", and follow the installation prompts. Once installed, you can create your first upsell offer in under 5 minutes from the UpsellCat dashboard inside your Shopify admin.

UpsellCat works with all Shopify plans that support checkout extensions, including Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify, and Shopify Plus. Post-purchase upsells require Shopify checkout extensibility, which is available on all current plans.

Setup & Activation

After creating your offers in UpsellCat, you need to enable them in Shopify. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout → Post-purchase page and tick the checkbox to enable post-purchase extensions. This requires Shopify Payments to be active on your store.

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout → Customize. In the checkout editor, navigate to the Thank you page tab. Click “Add block” in the sidebar and select “UpsellCat Thank You Offer” from the list. Hit Save and your thank you page upsells are live.

The most common reason is that the extensions haven't been activated in Shopify yet. Creating offers in UpsellCat is step one — you also need to turn on the extensions in your checkout settings:

For post-purchase offers: Go to Settings → Checkout → Post-purchase page and enable the checkbox.
For thank you page offers: Go to Settings → Checkout → Customize → Thank you page tab → Add block → select UpsellCat Thank You Offer.

Features

A post-purchase upsell is an offer shown to a customer immediately after they complete checkout, but before they see the order confirmation page. Because payment details are already on file, customers can accept the offer with a single click. This makes post-purchase upsells one of the highest-converting upsell methods available.

A thank you page upsell appears on the order confirmation page after a customer completes their purchase. It uses Shopify's Order Editing API to add products to the existing order. This gives customers a second opportunity to add complementary products while they're still engaged.

Yes. You can customize the headline, description, product, discount amount, timer duration, and display images for each offer. You can also target offers to specific trigger products — for example, showing a phone case upsell only when someone buys a phone.

Yes. You can set a percentage or fixed amount discount on any upsell offer. The original price and discounted price are both shown to the customer, making the offer more compelling.

Yes. You can add an optional countdown timer to create urgency. When the timer expires, the offer automatically declines. This is a proven technique to increase conversion rates on post-purchase offers.

Pricing

UpsellCat starts completely free. You pay nothing until your upsell offers generate $200 or more in revenue per billing cycle. After that, pricing scales with your success: Starter Lite ($9/mo up to $1,000), Starter ($29/mo up to $5,000), Growth ($59/mo up to $15,000), Pro ($99/mo up to $40,000), and Scale ($149/mo unlimited).

Yes. The free plan includes all features with no limitations except a $200 per billing cycle revenue cap. You get full access to post-purchase offers, thank you page upsells, analytics, and all customization options. There's no trial period — you stay on the free plan until your upsell revenue grows past $200.

Your plan is determined by how much upsell revenue your offers generate each billing cycle. If your upsells earn $800 in a cycle, you'd be on the Starter Lite plan ($9/mo). If they earn $3,000, you'd be on Starter ($29/mo). Your plan automatically adjusts — you never overpay for capacity you don't use, and you can always downgrade if a quieter month brings your revenue below your current tier.

When your upsell revenue reaches the limit of your current plan, UpsellCat will prompt you to upgrade. The upgrade happens seamlessly through Shopify's billing system. Your offers continue running — we don't disable them mid-cycle.

Technical

No. UpsellCat uses Shopify's official checkout extension APIs, which run in a sandboxed environment managed by Shopify. The upsell offer loads after the customer has already completed their purchase, so it has zero impact on checkout page speed or conversion rates.

Yes. UpsellCat does not store any customer personal information. We only store anonymous offer event data (views, accepts, declines) linked to order IDs, your offer configurations, and your shop domain and email for billing. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We collect your shop domain, shop owner email (for billing notifications), offer configuration data (products, prices, settings), and anonymous offer event data (views, accepts, declines with order IDs). We do not collect or store any customer personal data — no names, emails, addresses, or payment details.
